Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, less than two months from now, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has stayed quiet on plenty, but a lot has been made official over the last few months. Here's the state of play.
The game does not run on PS4 or Xbox One. Rockstar's pre-order announcement calls it a single-player experience, and the studio hasn't said what that means for multiplayer or GTA Online.
The story and setting
The story follows criminal duo Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, who get caught up in a conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida, home to Vice City.
Pricing and editions
Pre-orders opened June 25 in two editions:
- Standard Edition: $79.99
- Ultimate Edition: $99.99, which adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and more woven into the story
Anyone who pre-orders or buys before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, a retro-styled bonus set.
Even the "physical" version is effectively digital: the box contains a download code, not a disc.
Digital pre-orders can begin pre-loading on November 12, and physical copies go on sale the same day.
The soundtrack is already out
On September 17, Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track original soundtrack launching alongside the game. Six singles are already streaming, including Yung Lean's "That's It" (feat. Future & Metro Boomin), Travis Scott's "RHYNO," and "Sexy Magic" from CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, PinkPantheress, Fred again.. and Etienne de Crécy.
Vinyl and CD editions are available to pre-order, including a limited-edition liquid-filled vinyl.
What we've seen
Rockstar's most recent big showing was Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, which premiered on Netflix on August 27 before arriving on YouTube. It was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5.
The one confirmed cast member
Rockstar hasn't published a cast list. The one performer to publicly confirm a role is Stephen Root, who told the Associated Press "you're gonna see me in that." He didn't name his character in the interview. Fans and outlets have identified the role as Brian Heder, a Keys drug runner described on Rockstar's own character page.
What's still unconfirmed
Some of the loudest chatter has no official backing, so treat it as rumor:
- A PC version. Nothing official yet. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said at a September 17 shareholder meeting that PC is "becoming more and more important" to the company, but he didn't mention GTA VI. Talk of an earlier-than-expected PC release is industry chatter without a date or a confirmed source.
- Multiplayer in 2027. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said there would be a bump around GTA VI's launch and "an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer." That's a comment from a third party, and Rockstar hasn't announced multiplayer.
- The cast staying secret until launch. A podcast host, James Jarvis of GTA VI O'Clock, has reported that Rockstar emailed its performers to remember their NDAs until November 19. That's a single-source claim. Rockstar hasn't published the email or confirmed it.
Bottom line
With the release date, price, platforms and soundtrack all locked in, the big remaining questions are PC, multiplayer, and who plays Lucia and Jason. Rockstar has answered none of those officially. We'll update as it does.
